Coins – Great Variety with Added Value
The first coins date back to around 800 BC. They depicted domestic animals and were made of bronze. Much time has passed since then, but one thing has remained the same: Metals, especially precious metals, are of special value to humans and have therefore been used as a means of payment in the form of coins for a long time. Today, it is predominantly investors and collectors who are interested in coins. That is why we at Schoeller Münzhandel distinguish between investment coins and collector coins. Thanks to their great variety, coins are also highly coveted as gifts.
The Perfect Investment: Coins
For collector coins, the most important criteria are low mintage, designs, subject areas and series. Investment coins, on the other hand, are struck in high mintages and mainly serve, as the name implies, as a store of value. They are exclusively made of precious metals – such as gold, silver, platinum or palladium – and their value is therefore determined by current market prices. Traditional investment coins are minted in uniform striking series and issued by legitimated national mints. Derived from another word for gold or silver bars, they are also referred to as bullion coins.
